Driver Wear
Race suits come in few variations. Race used suits are triple layered (fire retarded) FIA homologated suits. Test session worn suits are identical in every respect to the race suit. Usually a suit would have been used in both. Pre 1990s, the drivers would use 3-5 suits for the entire season - this makes them very rare indeed. From the mid nineites onwards the drivers tend to use 12-16 suits per season depending on the team. Promotional suits are suits used by the drivers for press conferences, photo shoots and media appearances. They do not have a full flame proof interior making them more comfortable and cooler under studio lighting. There are however identical on the exterior and a nice alternative to a race worn suit when not affordable or available.
